"What is the best way to get an accurate quote when it comes to doing a remodel?" Erik calls this a great question, but stresses there are no shortcuts to reliability. For any new construction, remodel, or addition, the process must begin with a formal plan.
If the client hasn't already done so, the first step is to hire an engineering or architectural team to create a plan set. Once the drawings are ready, Erik's firm takes over with a rigorous quoting process. They require the drawings and conduct a site visit—even if it's just raw land—for a comprehensive inspection.
Erik orchestrates what he calls an "open house" for their crews, bringing all necessary teams (plumbers, electricians, etc.) to the site on a single day. This allows every trade to visually inspect the scope of work. After the site visit, the scope of work is provided to the crews, giving them time to submit accurate quotes. These numbers are then combined with the firm's overall estimate to present the final, comprehensive cost to the client. Erik is adamant: this multi-step process is the only way to ensure accuracy and prevent issues down the line.
