Homeowners often miss two crucial elements when planning a remodel: a transparent budget and a defined design direction. To tackle the first, Erik utilizes what he calls the "whole world estimate." By pricing out every want from A to Z initially, he provides a clear view of the total cost. "Then, if the budget isn't friendly," Erik explains, "we can notch down and work out scenarios to provide better pricing."
Equally important is design clarity. Erik warns that without a specific direction—be it Craftsman, Mid-Century Modern, or Colonial—time and resources are often wasted.
To solve this, he suggests creating a "digital collage" using platforms like Pinterest or Houzz. Providing even four or five photos helps the design-build firm "directly go that way" without guesswork.
Finally, Erik emphasizes solidity and trust. With 25 years in construction and a firm established in 2012, he still encourages homeowners to seek two or three estimates from reputable companies. By combining a visual goal with a realistic, "all-in" budget, homeowners can ensure their dream project doesn't turn into a series of expensive "rabbit holes."
